RACE REPORT | F1 Monaco 2024

Cherles Leclerc won in Monte Carlo for the first time in his career.

For the Monaco F1 Grand Prix, qualifying is the key to success. This year, this was clearly confirmed.

In Saturday's qualifying, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc took pole position, closely followed by Oscar Piastri, Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris. The leader of the standings, Max Verstappen, finished sixth.

The start of Sunday's race was marred by a three-driver collision involving Sergio Pérez, Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg. The race was immediately stopped because of this. The situation played into the hands of Sainz, who was in trouble during the first lap - after the red flag, he started from his original positions.

The second start was without problems, with no change in the order in the first half of the grid. Leclerc led the way, followed by Piastri, Sainz, Norris, Russell and Verstappen.

As the front-runners changed tyres after the red flag, they didn't have to stop for the rest of the race.

What followed was a very long and not very attractive race, with Lerclerc the winner. The Monegasque Ferrari driver thus took his first victory since 2022.
