It would be a shame if you were fined while in the United Arab Emirates. Check out our tips on how to enjoy the F1 race in Abu Dhabi without spending extra.
Vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road in Abu Dhabi.
In the United Arab Emirates, you should obey the following speed limits
100–160 km/h on motorways
100 km/h in rural areas
40–80 km/h in urban areas
40 km/h in residential areas
25 km/h in parking areas and on service roads
Running a red light in the UAE is taken seriously and is penalised with significant fines, accumulation of black points, and the potential for vehicle confiscation. Similarly, using a mobile phone without a hands-free device while driving attracts fines and black points.
The UAE enforces a strict no-tolerance policy on driving under the influence of alcohol. Any detected alcohol in a driver's system can lead to imprisonment and fines typically ranging from AED 20,000 to 30,000 (approx. from 5,500 to 8,000 USD)..
Seat belts are compulsory for all occupants of a vehicle, including those seated in the rear. Infants and children up to the age of four must be secured in a child safety seat. Failing to adhere to these rules results in fines and accrual of black points on the driver's record.
