ABOUT ABU DHABI

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is known for its rapid development and modern architecture. It is located on an island in the Persian Gulf off the Midwest coast. 

Most of the city and the emirate sit on the mainland connected to the rest of the country. Abu Dhabi is the centre of the country's political and industrial activities and an important cultural and commercial centre, contributing about two-thirds of the UAE's economy, which is worth about $400 billion.

The city is characterised by a spectacular urbanisation combined with the charm of an ancient heritage that dates back to 3000 BC. Its skyline is dominated by modern towers and cultural buildings, including the imposing Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which accommodates more than 40,000 worshippers. Abu Dhabi is also home to some cultural institutions such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the planned Zayed National Museum.

Economically, Abu Dhabi is driven by oil exports and trade, with major investments in real estate, tourism and retail. The city is also focusing on diversifying its economy through investment in information technology, renewable energy and education. The cosmopolitan atmosphere is underlined by a population that is a mix of Emirati nationals and expatriates from all over the world, making it a culturally diverse metropolis.
